About the art:

Deanna's art form should truly be called mixed media. Gathering her inspiration from workshops with some of the most respected artists in their field, as well as simple walks through the neighborhood, Deanna is always taking cues and direction from the settings she finds herself in.

The majority of Deanna's body of work stays within the boundaries of two styles: Acrylic boxes and pastels.

The wood boxes Deanna creates range in size from 8 x 8 to 24 x 36. Each box is covered with at least one layer of joint compound over latex paint. From there each box takes its own direction. Some of the materials included are acrylic paint, sand, sumi ink, paper, glass, etc. One of her favorite things to do is attach, imbed, sand, or inscribe onto and into the joint compound. It is never a surprise to her family to hear the sound of power tools roaring from her studio. Some are sanded down to give them an aged look. A cold wax finish brings out the beauty in each piece. The finished product is rough but inspiring all at once.

Pastels on paper are a gentler, more soothing art form Deanna spends time with. Working on a paper that has a tooth that really grabs the pastel is just the beginning. Many pieces contain sumi ink, gold leaf, acrylic, graphite and forms of words. It is often said that the elements included in this work gives a real sense of musical movement.

Deanna lives in Portland Oregon with her husband Eric and their two daughters, Hailee and Abbey.
